Gaian Alchemy Retreats 2018
The Course in Gaian Alchemy, was originally presented by John Lash as a 40 week course in 1982-83. It was the result of his investigations begun at the age of nine and more than 20 years of research and experimentation up until that time. After a 36 year hiatus, the time is now ripe for completing The Great Work. Here is a how he describes The Great Work:
“The Great Work is the task of CO-CREATION: service rendered to Nature by humanity, as a way of completing the very process of creation.
Obviously, it wil be impossible to pursue the task of assisting Nature, if we do not encounter Nature, the created world, in a profound way. To revise Alchemy in modern terms, we must contact Nature as an awesome power. The Great Work is a program and guide to such an encounter……..
The author shares his discovery that the alchemists were “atmospheric mystics” who experienced in a direct way how our mental and physical life is interfused with the processes of the terrestrial atmosphere. For example, they recognized the cycle of photosynthesis before it was technically identified. They knew as sensory fact the exchange of carbon dioxide bet- ween humans and plants. They considered the entire atmosphere as a vas hermeticum, a vessel where transmutations occur all the time. They sought to understand the role of the human form as a living “spore” embedded within the atmospheric medium.
This revision of alchemy does not require a forge and apparati, the cooking of chemicals, or working in a laboratory, but it does require the capacity to experience the entire atmosphere around us as a laboratory.
It also requires the training of imagination to see how we are involved in the dynamics of the atmosphere. Among the alchemists the power of imagination was called the artifex, the tool for achieving the Work.”
Excerpt from the prospectus to The Great Work, John Lash
Fast-forward to 2018 and, in addition to The Alchemy Course, we have the Sophianic Narrative, the Terma of Gaia Awakening and Planetary Tantra; not only do we know the identity of the ‘awesome power’, but we also have the methodology for interaction with Her. However, what really makes co-creation possible is the fact that we are now in Correction and is is becoming ever more clear that our Divine Mother wants to interact with us, Her magical children.
So who would be so bold as to desire to participate in co-creation with the Wisdom Goddess? What does that entail? Can your imagination conceive of what it would be like to attain the status of a god or goddess? Knowing, of course, that this is not the same as becoming a god; it does not involve an ascension process or even immortality. You can only ever be human, but what is the fullest expression of the Anthropos imaginable in a single human creature? And how do you get from where you are now to god-like? Having read The Alchemy Course three times, I can say with absolute confidence that this isn’t a mere possibility, it is inevitable that some one, who holds co-creation as their highest desire and does the necessary work, will achieve that goal. It could be you. Do you want to join me on this adventure?
“Hold to your highest desire and surrender its attainment, not precluding that the attainment will be rendered to you by the power of the Wisdom Goddess.” JLL
The Course in Gaian Alchemy will be available on Nemeta, the School of Sophianic Arts and Sciences. within the next few months. (You can sign up for updates on the Nemeta launch here.) For anyone wanting to initiate themselves in guided experimentation in a small group here in Gaia’s laboratory, I’m offering two retreats this summer.
The focus will be on the essential preliminaries and then to dive into the areas that are of greatest interest to participants. The full Gaian Alchemy syllabus cannot be covered in a week! Over the past few months I’ve focused on regeneration and releasing my senses from what is described in Gaian Alchemy as the ‘numbing effect of kundalini’. This is a radically different approach to kundalini than is to be found in new age perspectives on the subject. However, it’s worth noting that its correspondence to the Electric Universe Theory, which it predates by several decades, is remarkable. The aim of ‘Adventures in Gaian Alchemy’ is to introduce participants to the artifex and the proper use of the senses, so that they can continue with their own investigations effectively.
“For the olden alchemists, the process of grounding essense via kundalini was accomplished in the Fixation Stage of the Work. This was done through stilling images in the plasmatic Light. This is the initial training of the creative imagination to see into the planetary life-web. Fixation is the training of the attention to guide the imagination so that it serves the increasing of essense rather than its dissipation. Normally, the hypnotic power of Kundalini is evident in human tendencies to fantasy, daydreaming, groundless idealizations, sexpairing and emotional bonding based on transient attractions.
The alchemists called creative imagination by its Latin tag, imaginatio, and revered it as the artifex, the tool for actually performing the work.”

Additionally, the location is as important as the timing – Her Dreaming comes through the land. The Great Work must be initiated away from what passes for civilisation, in a place drenched in Her savage beauty, where our vestigial senses can still respond to Her signals. Galicia is such a place, a little corner of forgotten paradise, waiting to offer its treasures to all who seek Wisdom here. I mentioned in an earlier post how Galicia was known to the ancient Greeks as Ophiussa, the Land of Serpents and how I discovered this because we are located on the Eastern Galicia Magnetic Anomaly. The telluric currents of the earth are strong here. We are also directly under the flight path of the White Stork – these enormous and graceful birds fly over several times a day and nest in a great cedar tree we can see from our terrace. The stork is in the Pelicaniformes order of birds and related to the pelican; both serpent and pelican have a special significance in the ancient alchemical texts.
“‘Pneumatic’ comes from the Greek pneuma, spiritual or celestial breath. ‘Chthonic’ comes from the Greek chton, earth; thus it means earthly, earthbound, terrestrial. The creature of pneuma is primarily the PELICAN, while that of chton is the dragon or SERPENT, naturally. These appear in manifold variations, bearing witness to delicate nuances of transmutation in the course of the Work.
Alchemical lore contains a vast picture-book of bizarre and wonderful images, most of which prove to have clear and accurate meanings when the experience and processes they describe can be recaptured. The Bird and Serpent motifs appear in countless variations in the old manuscripts. The UROBOROS, the serpent eating its own tail, is a widely known ‘symbol’ whose precise meaning in human physics has been lost in a welter of abstract and fantastic interpretations. It is the prototype of all Serpent motifs.
Its counterpart, the central figure of all Bird motifs is found in the precious and singular image of the PELICAN. This bird when feeding its young crooks its neck down and around and performs an odd, striking act: it regurgitates already digested food into the ravening mouths of its brood. In doing so, it appears to be feeding them from nourishment torn out of its own breast. The alchemists, being keen observers of nature, caught this action and immediately saw it as the image of certain processes which occur in ‘mystical physiology’.”
From The Course in Alchemy, Lesson 13, John Lash.
Now, I admit to being biased here (I’m in love with this land) but given the physical presence of both these potent symbols right here, there can be no better place on the planet to to discover how to complete the Work at this time.
